Hi Jim,

The first picture is as you mentioned traditional but these do work for me. They show a location kind of feel and given an idea of the person / chef / cook as well. The second image is right to the point. Getting that highlights seems to be the key factor to show the tasty, freshness of the food.

First time on your site & blog. I am a new beginner in food photography. Aiming towards getting professional work soon. I am really glad I came across your site. Work is superb and very inspiring.

Jim--thanks for your participation in this event. I have been searching for the best way to deal with the remembrance of 9/11 and this charity helps me feel like I can contribute even if only in a small way in bringing good out of evil.

This post really made me think! From reading though your blogs and having had the great honor of a little private coaching, I'm seeing how amazing a teacher you are with an ability to give people the tools to think for themselves. Keep it coming!
Thanks a million!

Theses setups look awesome. That's always been the biggest challenge for me is figuring out how some of these photos are done like this so thank you for these BTS shots. Can I ask were you got the fake grass?

Thanks !

One of my highlights was dinner with you, Kate, and Francine. It was a good weekend.
See you next time.

I do sometimes do workshops, but not currently. You should look into the conference on food photography at Boston University, coming up this summer:
